Workshop: Empowering communities - living & growing space
10:15—11:10
Speakers:
A shortage of affordable housing is challenging the very fabric of communities. Some young people feel they have no option but to move away from their families and childhood friends to get a foot on first rung of the property ladder Increasingly, citizens feel the urge to connect to land in cities, but there is apparently a shortage of available land to cultivate
This session will show how neither of these assumptions are necessary truths. These challenges can be solved through the development of improved community-shaped legislation, by maximising institutional capacity and by improving partnerships, both between authorities and the communities and between peers
Using real, warts-and-all case studies, this interactive ideas surgery will show how communities can become empowered by lowering barriers to entry and providing support networks If you've got an idea for a project, come to this session and benefit from the panelists experience
