Ian is an architect. Unusually, he has spent his working life as a researcher, not a practitioner. He is partner in Eclipse - an independent research consultancy formed in 1984. He specialises in stakeholder dialogue and engagement around issues such as the sustainable development, climate change, the built environment and cultural heritage in the UK, Europe and beyond He has extensive experience of workshop design and facilitation, research design and management, dissemination, exploitation and impact assessment, for the EU, major UK government agencies, public sector bodies, voluntary organisations and other funding sources and, more rarely, private sector organisations Ian is a visiting professor to the School of the Built Environment at the University of Salford, an Associate Director of Cambridge Research Ltd, and is on the Board of the Sustainable Development Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that provides advice and guidance to the public sector on the sustainable procurement of buildings
